We held our 19th Annual Scroll Saw Weekend on the 19th & 20th July 2025 at the club rooms.
It was a very successful weekend with initially 21 scrollers registered with one having to pull out due to ill health in the family.
We started the weekend off with 21 people attending the Friday night dinner at Elgin’s Hotel, everyone enjoyed their meals, however there was a slight confusion with Dennis’ meal and we had all finished our meals by the time Dennis got his so there were cheers all around when he eventually got it.
After a hearty breakfast on Saturday morning of scrambled eggs and bacon and freshly baked bread, orange juice and plenty of coffee everyone started on the projects that we supplied or their own projects. `
At morning tea we welcomed everyone who attended our gathering with some coming from Sydney, Blue Mountains and Kiama in NSW and Melbourne and regional areas of Victoria. It was great to have Ed back after he had been unable to attend the last 2 years because of Covid, he told everyone about the very first gathering of Australian Scroll Saw enthusiasts which was held at Gateway Village and organized by the Albury Wodonga Woodcrafters with over 1600 people attending on Valentines Day in 1999.
After a hearty lunch, Dennis conducted an instructional demonstration on how to do inlays and also on Sunday he showed those who were interested his dust extraction system that he has developed for his own scroll saw. After that our professional photographer Adam came in to take photos of everyone which we are extremely grateful of him to do so, once Katie has a chance to go through them we will have them displayed in the Newsletter.
We had various roasts at the workshop on Saturday night followed by ice-creams.
Sunday morning at 7.00am on arriving to open up one of our guests who was staying in the caravan park was off on his morning walk to the amenities block, but found when he went back to his van that he had locked himself out. He came into us looking for a long pole that he could poke through the window to retrieve his keys, so after some searching through the workshop we found a long stick and a hook which we taped to the end and eventually to his delight was able to take the screen off the window and get his keys.
After another good breakfast (thankyou to Robert for cooking the eggs, very yummy) and having morning tea we then conducted the lucky door prizes, Dennis donated a set of coasters in a holder which was won by one of our visitors. Esthers’ biscuits were again a hit and people commented on how delicious they were, so a big thankyou Esther.
Our whole scroll saw group got behind the weekend and made it a huge success, to cooking, cleaning, shopping, organising wood for projects and many other tasks, so I would just like to thank each and every one of you for a terrific effort, you made my job so easy and the great success it was. Also a thankyou to the Box Making group for changing their start time on Friday to allow us to set up.
Since the weekend I have had much positive feedback from people that attended saying they had a fantastic time and felt welcomed with wonderful conversation and Dennis’ expert knowledge.
We will be having our 20th Annual Scroll Saw Weekend next year so we will have to start organizing now.
A big heartfelt thankyou again to everyone who participated
Happy Scrolling
