Hi everyone,
hope you are all well. July already, time goes so quickly. We now have a build date from Ranbuilt, and work is due to start on August 12. Here's hoping. The committee has agreed on a plan for the workshop layout
when the extension is completed, and work will start on that shortly. We have to re-do the workshop layout to obtain our certificate of occupancy for the extension.
We have received a lot of help with our extension and a sponsor board will be put up to recognize this. Baxters concrete, Middendorp Electrics, and The Commercial Club for starters. Mark and Juliana Vaughn and myself attended the Show Society AGM and in the process were able to secure part of the machinery shed next door for our use for a nominal rent. Harry has informed us the mill will have to move from Stag Horn Flat by years end and this site will go a long way to accommodate this move.
We have secured a large commercial order for pens, 200 in boxes. The margin on this job will substantially help to rebuild our finances after paying the balance of the workshop extension. We will need help from members to complete this order, and to this end, Paul Kohl is already well advanced in planning. He will need help from anyone who can turn a pen, and he will open the workshop on Tuesday and Thursday to work on this job. Paul will also work in with anybody outside these times to open up. All components will be supplied as required. If you would like to turn at home contact Paul. The boxes will be made by the box maker and furniture groups and assistance will be required here as well. Contact Colin or Martin for information here as well, or contact me.
Peter Hurcun will be coordinating with Lavington Primary School and Murray High School to assist students to develop woodcraft skills which will provide an incentive for those students to become regular school attendees. He may need help to make toy components for use in this project, so watch this space.
Workshop attendance and participation has been well down lately, with only 7 members at the meeting on Tuesday. Very interesting guest speaker, so we will try to get her back again in the future. I am putting this down to a very cold winter and the ever-present concern of Covid. However, if you have any ideas on how to improve participation please drop me a line or give me or a committee member a call.
Cheers for now,
Ivan
